Five Things: School Committee Meets Tonight

Today is Thursday, April 12. Here are five things you need to know:

1. There is expected to be scattered showers throughout the day today, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures should reach the mid 50s.

2. The School Committee will have a special organizational meeting at 6 p.m. tonight (see agenda) followed by a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. (see agenda).  Both meetings are in the School Committee Room on the sixth floor of . Although not on either agenda, the committee is now tasked with picking a replacement for Joseph Curro, . Curro automatically vacated his committee seat after winning the election.

3. A retirement reception will be held for longtime town library director Maryellen Remmert-Loud from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight at .

4. You have until 9 a.m. Friday . It had been a close race between and . However, Sports Etc. took a big but not insurmountable lead on Wednesday.

5. Speaking of sports: The Arlington High baseball and softball teams will both host Watertown at 3:45 p.m. today, while the girls’ tennis team will host Newton South at the same time. The Arlington Catholic boys’ lacrosse team will be at Archbishop Williams at 4 p.m. today. The school’s girls’ lacrosse team will host Matignon at 4 p.m. today.
