Christmas Tree Pickup in Arlington Next Week

Trees in plastic bags will not be collected.

Today is Friday, Jan. 4. Here are five things you need to know:

1.) From the town: Christmas trees will be collected by JRM the week of Jan. 7-11 on your regular trash day. Trees in plastic bags will not be collected. Wreaths and garland should go out in regular trash (because they are wrapped in wire).

Also note, NO yard waste will be collected during this week. Weekly collections of yard waste will resume the week of April 8. For additional details on how to dispose of your Christmas tree, please visit arlingtonma.gov/recycle.

2.) The Arlington High girls’ gymnastics team will host Winchester at 4:30 p.m. today. The girls’ basketball team will host Belmont at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the wrestling team will be at Belmont at 9 a.m. The girls’ ice hockey team will host Lexington at 6 p.m., the boys’ team will follow them against Lexington at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the girls’ basketball team will host Waltham at 3 p.m.

3.) The Arlington Catholic swim team will face Cardinal Spellman at Massasoit Community College at 3:30 p.m. today. The girls’ basketball team will host Somerville at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the boys’ basketball team will be at Lincoln Sudbury at 3 p.m. The boys’ ice hockey team will face Bishop Fenwick at Peabody’s O’Keefe Memorial Rink at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the boys’ ice hockey team will face St. Peter Marian at Holy Cross College at 2 p.m.

4.) In case you missed it, there was a fire in the ceiling at Mal’s Service Center Thursday.

5.) Weekend forecast: Today and Saturday should be mostly sunny with highs in the high 30s, according to the National Weather Forecast. There could be some snow showers Sunday morning.
