Today is Monday, Feb. 25. Here are five things you need to know:
1.) The Arlington High boys’ basketball team earned the No. 16 seed in the Division 2 North bracket with a 10-10 regular-season record. The Spy Ponders will host No. 17 Tewksbury (9-11) at 7 p.m. tonight in the bracket’s preliminary round, with the winning team moving on to face No. 1, undefeated Melrose (20-0).
The Arlington Catholic boys’ basketball team got the No. 5 seed in the Division 3 North bracket with a 14-6 regular-season record. The Cougars will face No. 12 Stoneham (11-9) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Woburn High School in the bracket’s first round. The Arlington Catholic girls’ basketball team, the No. 3 seed in the Division 2 North bracket, will begin its state-title defense against No. 14 Salem (10-10) after the boys’ game at 7:45 p.m. in Woburn. The Cougars girls’ team went 16-6 in the regular season.
2.) The seventh-seeded Arlington Catholic girls’ hockey team (13-4-2) will host No. 26 Cambridge/Somerville (7-10-3) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the preliminary round of the Division 1 tournament. The Cougars won last year’s state tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 3-1 win over St. Mary’s of Lynn in the finals.
The Arlington High girls’ hockey team (11-8-1) is the No. 19 seed in the tournament. The Spy Ponders will travel to face No. 14 Watertown/Melrose (13-7-2) at 5 p.m. today in Watertown.
The Division 1 North boys’ hockey bracket will be released after tonight’s play-in games.
