Selectmen Shut Down Arlington Center Restaurant

See which restaurant is being forced to close.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted Monday night to revoke Scugnizzi’s operating and beer and wine licenses, therefore closing the restaurant, as the owner and manager listed on the licenses are no longer involved with the business, according to the board.

The decision was made with no discussion, as no representative from the restaurant attended Monday’s meeting.

The owner of the restaurant, Francesco Martini of Lartino LLC, has moved to Mexico, his former attorney, William Grannan, wrote in a July 25 letter to the Board of Selectmen.

Martini failed to transfer the licenses before he moved and hadn’t paid rent in four months, Grannan wrote. In those four months, two checks that Martini wrote to his landlord bounced, the landlord told Grannan.

The manager, Giuseppe Guarino, is also no longer involved, according to Grannan.

The Italian restaurant at 450 Mass. Ave. in Arlington Center has been closed recently. Scugnizzi had been named Buona Vita Cucina Italiana prior to July 2012.
