Restaurant Openings and Closings in Lexington, Belmont, Medford and Somerville

Lexington

A “paint-and-pour” business might be coming to Lexington Center. Stan Finch, a representative from Brush and Goblet, went before the town’s Board of Selectmen Monday to test the waters about his idea to pair art classes with beer and wine.

“Paint-and-pour,” or “paint-and-sip,” establishments are more common in the South but have been coming to the Northeast, Finch told the board. The Paint Bar in Newton, Palettes in Natick and Paint ’n Pour in Maynard are a few examples in the Bay State. No specific locations for the Brush and Goblet were discussed at the meeting.

Belmont

A very large Subway opened in Belmont Center Wednesday. The Subway, at 59A Leonard St., the former site of TCBY, is more than 3,000 square feet, or roughly three times the size of the five-dollar-footlong chain’s average store.

Not restaurant news per se, but Craft Beer Cellar, a small, locally-owned craft beer store in Belmont Center, is planning to franchise its model, its owners told Belmont Patch. Suzanne Schalow and Kate Baker said that there will likely be three “Craft Beer Cellars” in Massachusetts by the end of 2013. The two-year-old store, at 51 Leonard St. in Belmont, stocks more than 1,100 craft beers.

Medford

This is somewhat old news, but in early July, Kelly’s Roast Beef at Station Landing in Medford got the go-ahead to stay open until 3 a.m. (two hours later than its previous 1 a.m. closing time). So if you ever get a late-night craving, you now know where to go.

Somerville

The Paddock, at 249 Pearl St. in Somerville, behind Somerville High School and City Hall, closed its doors Friday. The restaurant had reopened under new ownership in 2008.

Closer to Arlington, , at 868 Broadway in Powder House Square, has closed and will become the home of DooWee & Rice, a small fusion test kitchen.

In other Somerville food news, the Redbones was Monday. At the annual event, which supports the Somerville Homeless Coalition, the barbecue joint slow cooks a whole pig. Lastly, the East Somerville isn’t until Tuesday, Sept. 18, but tickets are on sale now.
