Residents Dispute Jimmy’s Yelp! Ranking

Despite what Yelp! reviewers say, Jimmy's is No. 1, according to Arlington Patch readers.

On Wednesday, we posted, “Yelp’s Top 8 Restaurants in Arlington,” and asked you to list the most glaring omissions.

A number of restaurants received your praise –Scutra, Menotomy Grill & Tavern, Flora, Tryst and Acitron, to name a handful – but one stood out: Jimmy’s.

“A large population of this town has been going [to Jimmy’s] for many, many years, and they love it, and I sure look forward to it,” Mary Flood wrote on our Facebook page. “Jimmy’s has been a landmark and local restaurant with great food and countless loyal patrons. Many restaurants come and go in this town, but something has to be said for a restaurant that continues to thrive as they have for so many years.”

Steven Lowell added, “I’ve been getting the same meal there for the past 30 years and wouldn’t change a thing – steak teriyaki and broiled scallops – Jimmy’s Rocks!!”

While Joseph Crisafi was incredulous that Jimmy’s was left off the list, “Are you kidding me? Jimmy’s should be on this list. Jimmy’s is the best restaurant in Arlington – period.”

Now Jimmy’s still does boast an impressive 4 rating  and more than 100 reviews on Yelp!, the same as some of the restaurants ranked in the top 8 (we’re not privy to Yelp!’s algorithm for their rankings).

“Zoltan” did provide a theory for Jimmy’s absence though: “A large percentage of Jimmy’s customers are Baby Boomers who are probably unaware of Yelp!’s existence.”

We would add that Jimmy’s is probably the only restaurant in town with a wait at 4:30 p.m. and not at 7 p.m.

All this being said, not everyone thought Jimmy’s deserves the nod.

“You can keep Jimmy’s,” Ann Bowler replied to its fans.

Carola Finochetti added on Facebook, “I’m sorry to say, Jimmy’s is on autopilot, they gave up a long time ago.”

Are you on Team Jimmy’s? Is it an Arlington institution that deserves to be treasured? Or is it overrated?
