Allston Gastropub Going for Old Gemma's Spot

See what bar and grill is looking to move into Broadway Plaza.

In late June, we reported that Common Ground Bar & Grill, an Allston gastropub, was planning to open its second location in Arlington.

And now it appears that the restaurant has targeted the old Gemma spot at 319 Broadway in Arlington Center for its new digs.

According to paperwork filed with the town, Common Ground Bar & Grill will have an Environmental Design Review hearing at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 29, to allow a 250-seat restaurant with 30 additional outdoor seats at the site (we assume this is a standard maximum and not how big the restaurant will actually be if approved).

The restaurant’s Allston location, at 85 Harvard Ave., opened 16 years ago but recently went under new ownership. It features three trivia nights, “Funk Wednesdays,” “90’s Night” on Fridays and a “Millennium Party” on Saturdays. It also has brunch buffets on Saturdays and Sundays and all-you-can-eat barbecue on Sundays as well.

The Allston menu has a number of small plates, soups and salads, sandwiches ($8-10) and large plates ($11-13). Its drink list includes 20 beers on tap, nine specialty cocktails and other beer and wine.

The old Gemma spot was slated for Cooper’s Tavern. However, plans for that restaurant fell through.
