Former WBCN DJ in Arlington Wednesday

He'll talk about the rise and fall of the radio station.

Former WBCN DJ Carter Alan will discuss the rise and fall of Boston’s alt. rock radio station at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Arlington High School’s media center.

Arlington Community Education, the Robbins Library and the Arlington Advocate are sponsoring the event, part of Community Ed’s “Conversations” series.

Carter’s new book is, “Radio Free Boston: The Rise and Fall of WBCN.” Carter, a DJ at WBCN from 1979-1998, also wrote, “Outside in America,” and, “The Road to Pop,” both about the band U2. He is now a music director at WZLX and hosts the midday show, “Sunday Morning Blues.”

WBCN was on the air in Boston from 1968-2009.

Music critic Tim Riley will moderate the event.
