Rotary Polar Plunge Saturday

Brave the freezing water to help eradicate polio.

Rotary District 7930’s Polar Plunge is Saturday, Feb. 1, at Long Beach in Gloucester.

The plunge will raise funds to help eradicate polio. The Rotary’s goal is to raise more than $100,000, which would then be match 2-to-1 with contributions from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The fourth annual plunge will happen at 11:15 a.m. (participants must be on the beach by 10:50 a.m.). Spectators are welcome to attend as well.

Saturday’s forecast calls for temperatures in the mid 30s and scattered snow showers.

Rotary District 7930 includes the following communities: Amesbury, Andover, Arlington, Belmont, Beverly, Boston, Burlington, Cambridge, Chelsea, Danvers, East Boston, Revere, Everett, Gloucester, Greater Salem (N.H.), Hamilton/Wenham, Haverhill, Ipswich, Lawrence, Lexington, Lynn, Lynnfield, Manchester/Essex, Medford, Marblehead, Melrose, Methuen, Newburyport, North Andover, North Reading, Peabody, Reading, Rockport, Salem, Saugus, Somerville, Stoneham, Swampscott, Topsfield/Boxford/Middleton, Wakefield, Wilmington, West Roxbury, Winchester, Winthrop and Woburn.
