Gazebo Dedicated in Memory of Krystle Campbell

A gazebo on Boston’s Spectacle Island was dedicated Tuesday in memory of Krystle Campbell during a private ceremony.

Campbell, a Medford native and Arlington resident, was one of three people killed in the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15. She was 29.

Campbell’s family attended the ceremony, along with her friends and co-workers, officials from the Department of Conservation and Recreation, City of Boston, Boston Harbor Island Alliance, National Park Service and City of Medford, according to a Tuesday release from the City of Medford.

Campbell most recently worked at Jimmy’s in Arlington. She previously managed the Summer Shack and event operations at Spectacle Island and Georges Island.

“We are honored to celebrate the life of Krystle Campbell by naming this structure in her memory,” Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino said at the ceremony. “Its location provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the peace and tranquility which Krystle enjoyed on the island and to view a city that will forever mourn the loss of this dynamic young woman.”

The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Boston Harbor Island Alliance and National Park Service submitted a joint application for the dedication to the Boston Parks Department in early July. The Boston Parks Commission then approved the application unanimously.

Design Division of Amherst designed the dedication signage for free, and Mystic Scenic Studios of Norwood donated the fabrication and installation.
