Bike, 'Sharrow' Lanes Coming Soon to Arlington Heights

See where they'll be.

Bike and sharrow lanes will soon be striped on Mass. Ave. in Arlington Heights, from the Lexington line to Mill/Jason streets.

Roughly one-third of this stretch will be bike lanes; the other two-thirds will be sharrow lanes (example pictured above), which let drivers know to share the road with bicyclists, Department of Public Works Director Michael Rademacher told the Board of Selectmen Monday.

“We’re not changing any lane configurations,” he said.

There will be two stretches of bike lanes, from the Arlington Heights Busway to the Dunkin’ Donuts at Richardson Avenue and from about Brattle Street to Grove Street. These stretches were chosen solely based on their width, Rademacher said.

The rest will be striped with sharrow lanes, he said.

The Department of Public Works and the town’s Transportation And Bicycle advisory committees worked together on the plan.
