Arlington Resident Sofia Vallila Rohter Receives Award from MGH Institute of Health Professions
Arlington resident Sofia Vallila Rohter, PhD, CCC-SLP, is the 2014 recipient of the Faculty Award for Excellence from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston.
She was chosen by graduating students in the Master of Speech-Language Pathology program and received the award during the health sciences graduate school’s May 8 Commencement ceremonies.
“Dr. Rohter is a dynamic, insightful, and passionate educator who has been responsible for some of our most memorable learning experiences at the Institute,” said Class of 2014 graduate student Michelle Adessa, who presented the award on behalf of her classmates. “She took complicated and scientific coursework and presented it to us in a palatable, patient, and multi-sensory way.”

Vallila Rohter earned a PhD from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program in 2013, as well as a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the MGH Institute the same year.
The award honors a distinguished CSD faculty member who presents material in a highly effective manner, fosters an atmosphere of individual inquiry, uses class time efficiently, welcomes discussion and expression of diverse points of view, and excels in teaching his or her course.
