Arlington’s 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observance on Monday, Jan. 20, at Town Hall will feature guest speaker Peniel Joseph, a history professor at Tufts University.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. with light refreshments, and the program will start at 7:30 p.m.

Music will be provided by Arlington High’s Jazz Band and Madrigal Singers.

There will be a collection of non-perishable goods for the Arlington Food Pantry at the event, and a free-will offering will benefit public and nonprofit programs that further the goals of Dr. King.

Really? A racist, militant black power activist as a speaker? MLK is rolling over in his grave.
John January 17, 2014 at 07:32 PM
Who signed off on this?
Jane Doh January 17, 2014 at 10:53 PM
I believe it's Martin LUTHER King, instead of Martin (Lex) Luthor.

Louis Farrakhan must have been booked. I was reminded of a classic SNL skit however. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/a7fde48976/kill-the-white-people-from-nino

"John": "A racist, militant black power activist"? Can you document your claim? As for who signed off, read the news story.
John January 20, 2014 at 09:29 AM
Seriously, Bob? Try clicking the link in the article.
Bob Sprague January 20, 2014 at 09:35 AM
I did, "John." I don't see racism and militant black power. Where do you see these issues raised?
Wind Dummy 25 January 20, 2014 at 10:52 AM
@ Bob S really? Thought you where up on this reporter thing. Peace.
Bob Sprague January 20, 2014 at 11:36 AM
Reporters ask questions. So far, "John" hasn't answered. Perhaps Stephen can. Do you see Peniel Joseph as a racist, block-power militant? If so, why do you believe that?
Stephen January 20, 2014 at 11:39 AM
Sprague, go f' yourself, how dare you try to link me with charges of racism. Everyone sees the game you like to play, trolling patch, trying to elicit emotional responses, cutting and pasting off hand comments onto your pathetic blog and onto the Arlington List of Crazy People. Next you'll cry about how I treat you like the moron you are.
Bob Sprague January 20, 2014 at 12:54 PM
This thread is not about me. It's about whether the speaker tonight is a racist, as "John" alleged. If you do not agree, Stephen, you may say so without name-calling. Anyone have evidence of the allegation of racism?
Stephen January 20, 2014 at 12:59 PM
No Sprague, you've made this thread about you and your incessant desire to create controversy in Arlington for your blog. Find that rock you climbed out from under, dig a hole and crawl in, you troll.
Bob Sprague January 20, 2014 at 01:04 PM
If what you write is the case, then why is it that every time I post anything, you ignore the question and make disparaging comments about me? If you would like to send me nasty comments, do so at sprague.bob@gmail. Refrain from doing it here. Meanwhile, has the Martin Luther King Birthday Observance Committee (not just Janice Bakey) brought a racist speaker to Arlington, as one commenter has claimed?
Wind Dummy 25 January 20, 2014 at 02:21 PM
Racism is a foul word and often hard to stick on a person without stamped proof this is not the place. Groups May be but still this is not the place. He said they said can be bandied and ends up splitting into a siliva fest how needs that. Just respect the man his deeds his message.
Bob Sprague January 20, 2014 at 02:46 PM
"Wind": Thank you for addressing the issue raised. I agree with you about respecting the man, his deed and his message."
John January 20, 2014 at 03:22 PM
Stephen, it would appear that you have your John's mixed up, dummy.
John January 20, 2014 at 04:11 PM
I'm not the one that made those comments. Surely even you could determine that, potty mouth.
Wind Dummy 25 January 20, 2014 at 06:20 PM
We were and still are getting away from the essence of the intent, he was "MLK". And Bob S was getting pounded by mysterious John's and rasicm. I will defer and stand against plain old racism . It sucked back then still sucks now and probably will continue to suck.
