Mosaic Art Show at the Old Schwamb Mill
September 29, 2:30-4:30pm, Opening Reception for "Mosaics at the Mill - a Show of Mosaic Art" a month-long exhibition featuring works by 40 local and regional artists, including award winners Carol Shelkin, Cynthia Fisher and Deb Aldo.
We expect this to generate a great deal of enthusiasm as it has been three years since the last mosaic exhibition in the Boston area. Suzanne Owayda and Betsy Rodman, co-curators of the exhibition and co-owners of Mosaic Oasis Studio and Supply of Arlington, are hoping to help fill the void left in the mosaic world by the passing in 2010 of Bill Buckingham. In 2007 and 2009 Buckingham co-curated the Somerville Museum’s “The Art of Mosaic ” exhibitions. The exhibition runs through November 10.
The Mill, one of Arlington’s hidden historic gems, is an 1864 factory specializing in oval picture frames. It is also a living museum, whose charm and old-world ambiance serve as a perfect backdrop for this exhibition. The Mill is a worthy destination in its own right, with its rich industrial history, its bucolic setting on Mill Brook and, in particular, its original and still-used 19th-century machinery.
Open Tuesdays and Saturdays 11-3 for tours and gallery viewing. Groups by appt.
Shopping is available at Shaker Workshops in the mill’s barn: furniture, lamps, rugs, and many seasonal and unique gift items Mon-Sat 10-5
