On December 4, 2012 at 7:00pm, Lesley Ellis School Parent Education Series presents “Holding On, Letting Go: Social Development in the Elementary and Middle School Years” with Robert Evans, Ed.D.
Program Description: All parents want their children to become resilient and confident, and they know this means children must be allowed to learn on their own. But they find it hard to let their children face challenge and disappointment and make mistakes. How can parents strike a good balance between helping and protecting their children and letting them come to grips with real-life issues? Rob Evans will offer concrete suggestions for managing this key dilemma.
About Our Presenter: Robert Evans is a clinical and organizational psychologist and the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He is a former high school and preschool teacher and for many years a child and family therapist. Dr. Evans has served in schools for more than 30 years and now speaks widely at educational conferences and consults to schools throughout the U.S. and internationally, working with teachers, administrators, and boards. He also works with human service agencies and corporations.
Dr. Evans is a graduate of the Germantown Friends School and received his undergraduate degree from Princeton and his doctorate from Harvard. His interests have focused on change and resistance to it in schools and organizations, and on the challenges of leading innovation. He is currently concentrating on the changes in American families and their impact on schools. He is the author of many articles and three books: Seven Secrets of The Savvy School Leader, The Human Side of School Change, and Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing.
