Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:30-2:30, is the Friends of Spy Pond Park 20th Anniversary Party. Bring your own picnic, friends and family. Take a boat ride out to Elizabeth Island with the Arlington Land Trust, view the proposed mural for the Boys and Girls Club wall, play in the playground, enjoy the park with friends and neighbors. Rain date Sunday.

More About Spy Pond Park
Framed by picturesque Spy Pond on one side and the Minuteman Bikeway on the other, this skinny parkway has pretty much everything: picnic benches, small sandy beaches, swans and Canada geese (don't feed them), a boat launch for crew teams and stone steps to the pond for those who want to dip their feet.
In the mid-19th century, Spy Pond was the site of a major ice-harvesting operation, with trains carrying ice from the pond to the harbor and Boston for transport to ports throughout the world. It was also home to powder house of the Arlington militia.
Today, Spy Pond Park is home to the Yood Park playground, which includes swings, slides and a jungle gym on woodchips. Parking is available in a lot off Pond Lane, but the spaces fill up quickly on a nice day. The Arlington Rowing Club keeps its boats on the opposite side of the bikeway and uses the pond for practices.
The park is a short walk from the Spy Pond Playground, which includes several playing fields and tennis courts.
Alcohol, cookouts, swimming and golf are prohibited.
