DESCRIPTION:Touch Galley is pleased to present Bruegel&rsquo\;s Dream\, a
solo exhibition of new paintingsby Nedret Andre. Please join us on Satu
rday February 23rd\, for the exhibition and tomeet the artist. In the exh
ibition Nedret presents a series of oil paintings that explore the imagi
narydream world of Bruegel. Nedret&rsquo\;s cross-cultural landscapes we
ave together manyinfluences such as\; images from New England\, Turkish
textile patterns\, impressionisticbrush strokes\, and Bruegel. Her paint
ings are interpretations of our world today\; amontage of colliding diff
erences. She borrows merchant ships from the16th CenturyFlemish painter
Bruegel which sail between shores in her paintings. For Nedret\,Bruegel&
rsquo\;s work symbolizes a place where many social classes\, languages\,
and culturesco-exist. For example\, in Bruegel&rsquo\;s Dream (painting
above)\, the ship is headingtowards the Tower of Babel\, but we do not
see a detailed architectural tower. Instead ofarchitectural structures w
e are presented with patterns and textile that float betweenearth and sk
 y. The Boston sky line is barely recognizable in the foreground with thi
 sshifting landscape.
