More About Saint Athanasius the Great (Greek Orthodox)
Founded in 1964, the congregation of St. Athanasius worshiped for over 60 years at 735 Massachusetts Ave., now home to the High Rock Church, before its rapidly growing membership forced it to relocate. Since late 2005, St. Athansius has operated on a three-acre complex on Appleton Street previously occupied by St. James the Apostle, a Roman Catholic church.
In the winter, Orthros is held at 8:45 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Sunday church school is held at 10 a.m. In the summer, Orthros is held at 8 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:15 a.m. For weekday service, Orthros is held at 8 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m.
St. Athanasius hosts a Sunday school and Greek school, as well as a variety of extra curricula activities. The church also operates Little Halos, a preschool and prekindergarten day school.
