The following is a Letter to the Editor from Paul Schlichtman, a School Committee member and Mystic Street resident.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my friends and neighbors for their support in Saturday’s annual town election. I am honored that 5,283 voters chose to fill in the bubble next to my name on the ballot, even though my name was the only one on the ballot for the one-year School Committee seat. I also want to thank the people who played key roles in my campaign. I am grateful for the support and hard work of campaign chair Rosina-Maria Lucibello, campaign treasure Kim Haase, and for the photography and graphic design of Charlotte Pierce. I also want to thank Kirsi Allison-Ampe and Judson Pierce for their willingness to continue on the School Committee for the next three years. I look forward to my work with six outstanding colleagues…
See what step Selectman Kevin Greeley wants the board to take at its next meeting.
Count Selectman Kevin Greeley firmly in the camp of those who believe that Saturday’s “Yes” vote on Question 1 shouldn’t be interpreted as a deathblow to the current Mass. Ave. Corridor Project. At the end of Monday night’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Greeley said he plans to draft a letter, with help from Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine, to Federal Highway and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation expressing the board’s “[strong continued] support for the project” and to request the project's funding. He said he would bring the letter to the board’s next meeting on Monday, April 22, for his colleagues’ approval. The Mass. Ave. Corridor Project, which is expected to cost about $6.8 million, would be 80 percent federally funded, 20…

The following is a Letter to the Editor from Kevin Greeley, a newly re-elected selectman and Mystic Street resident.
I would like to thank the voters of Arlington for returning me to the Board of Selectmen for another term. It was a great turnout and I was pleased with the results. The almost 50/50 vote on Question 1 was also a victory for our town. This was a very confusing question – many who voted for me also voted yes on the question. In conversation they told me that they would prefer four lanes but are still supporters of this project and its funding by federal and state funds. They also appreciate that we have compromised to a three-lane plan. It's time to put the arguments and personal attacks behind us and move forward on this project. If we don’t, we’ll have to use Arlington’s precious tax dollars to pay for the necessary improvements to this …
In addition, Selectman Diane Mahon was elected vice chairman at Monday's meeting.

Selectman Diane Mahon was elected vice chairman, also in a unanimous vote. Dunn said he was excited to receive the honor. He had served as vice chairman over the last year. 2.) Also at the meeting, see Kevin Greeley’s response to Saturday’s “Yes” vote on Question 1. 3.) The Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate meet in their second debate.
The combatants for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Senate special election will square off Monday night in Lowell for their second debate leading up to the April 30 primary. Congressmen Edward Markey (D-Malden) and Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) will participate in the debate being held at 7:30 p.m. at Durgin Hall on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The debate is being sponsored by UMass Lowell’s Center for Public Opinion and the Boston Herald. Questions for the debate will be posed by UMass Lowell students while the moderator will be reporter Jaclyn Cashman, according to the university. Markey and Lynch previously met for their first debate March 27 at the Channel 5 studios in Needham. The two candidates agreed…
Tell us what you think in the comments below.
Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) dropped a bombshell on Thursday night when he told reporters following a speech in Nashua that he wouldn't rule out a run for Senate in New Hampshire. "I'm not going to rule out anything right now," he said. Brown, who represented Massachusetts in the Senate from 2009 to 2012, owns a vacation home in Rye, N.H., so it's not that far fetched. His announcement drew an immediate response from Democrats, who flooded the Twitterverse with comments and jokes about the former Massachusetts Senator's prospects should he choose to take on incumbent Jeanne Shaheen in 2014. What do you think? Should Scott Brown run for Senate in New Hampshire in 2014? Or should he stay in Massachusetts? Tell us in our comments …

The resident group, which strongly supported a ‘No’ vote on Question 1, says the ‘Yes’ result shouldn’t change a thing.
The following is a Letter to the Editor from the East Arlington Livable Streets Coalition. It is signed by the group's co-chairmen, Phil Goff, of Grafton Street, and Chad Gibson, of Varnum Street. So what do the election results mean? Hello EALS members and supporters of A Better Mass Ave, Yesterday was quite a day. Turnout was up significantly (29 percent overall) due, in all likelihood, to the non-binding referendum about traffic lanes on Mass Ave. We are delighted that Kevin Greeley—running on a platform that strongly supported the current three-lane plan—easily won re-election. He defeated Maria Romano, who made opposition to the Mass Ave plan a core part of her platform, by a 58-42 percent margin. We are also pleased to note that …
A look back at what happened over the past week in the U.S. Senate race.
It was a very busy week in the race for U.S. Senate. Things started to get heated as the candidates continue to race toward the April 30 primaries. We saw candidates lashing out at party backing, another facing an ethics complaint, new poll numbers, and more. Let’s start with the Democrats this week. Democratic candidates Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Edward Markey (D-Malden) will face off in a second debate Monday night in Lowell. If the news of the past week is any indication, it should make for an interesting back and forth between the candidates. Lynch took aim at his party leaders last week for supporting Markey. Lynch told the Boston Herald that the Democratic leaders haven’t been fair and told them that he thinks they’ve done …

no, four unmarked lanes means four unmarked lanes. If they were not legal lanes, it wouldn't say four lanes, it would say 2 lanes. I can't believe you could really be that dense? I pray you're just a troll, otherwise you have single-handedly made me lose faith in the average intelligence of the community.   more ›
