I want to take this opportunity to thank my friends and neighbors for their support in Saturday’s annual town election. I am honored that 5,283 voters chose to fill in the bubble next to my name on the ballot, even though my name was the only one on the ballot for the one-year School Committee seat. I also want to thank the people who played key roles in my campaign. I am grateful for the support and hard work of campaign chair Rosina-Maria Lucibello, campaign treasure Kim Haase, and for the photography and graphic design of Charlotte Pierce. I also want to thank Kirsi Allison-Ampe and Judson Pierce for their willingness to continue on the School Committee for the next three years. Count Selectman Kevin Greeley firmly in the camp of those who believe that Saturday’s “Yes” vote on Question 1 shouldn’t be interpreted as a deathblow to the current Mass. Ave. Corridor Project. At the end of Monday night’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Greeley said he plans to draft a letter, with help from Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine, to Federal Highway and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation expressing the board’s “[strong continued] support for the project” and to request the project's funding. The following is a Letter to the Editor from Kevin Greeley, a newly re-elected selectman and Mystic Street resident.
I would like to thank the voters of Arlington for returning me to the Board of Selectmen for another term. It was a great turnout and I was pleased with the results. The almost 50/50 vote on Question 1 was also a victory for our town. This was a very confusing question – many who voted for me also voted yes on the question. In conversation they told me that they would prefer four lanes but are still supporters of this project and its funding by federal and state funds. They also appreciate that we have compromised to a three-lane plan. It's time to put the arguments and personal attacks behind us and move forward on this project. If we don’t, we’ll have to use Arlington’s precious tax dollars to pay for the necessary improvements to this …

The Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate meet in their second debate.
The combatants for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Senate special election will square off Monday night in Lowell for their second debate leading up to the April 30 primary. Congressmen Edward Markey (D-Malden) and Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) will participate in the debate being held at 7:30 p.m. at Durgin Hall on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The debate is being sponsored by UMass Lowell’s Center for Public Opinion and the Boston Herald. Questions for the debate will be posed by UMass Lowell students while the moderator will be reporter Jaclyn Cashman, according to the university. Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) dropped a bombshell on Thursday night when he told reporters following a speech in Nashua that he wouldn't rule out a run for Senate in New Hampshire. "I'm not going to rule out anything right now," he said. Brown, who represented Massachusetts in the Senate from 2009 to 2012, owns a vacation home in Rye, N.H., so it's not that far fetched. It was a very busy week in the race for U.S. Senate. Things started to get heated as the candidates continue to race toward the April 30 primaries. We saw candidates lashing out at party backing, another facing an ethics complaint, new poll numbers, and more. Let’s start with the Democrats this week. Democratic candidates Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Edward Markey (D-Malden) will face off in a second debate Monday night in Lowell.
