Solid defense and opportunistic offense granted Reading Memorial High School a 3-2 win over Arlington High School in the opening round of the Ed Burns Tournament Tuesday night. Cody Macaluso's goal 6:12 into the third period stood as the game winner. The teams tussled through a close first period until a Reading outburst in the last minute. Pat Manzi's goal with just 37 seconds left put Reading up by a goal, and less than 20 seconds later Garrett Phelan took a Ryan Thompson feed and slid the puck past Arlington goaltender Luke Trembley. The game got chippy in the second period, and Arlington …

Arlington Catholic (9-1) faced off against in-town rival Arlington High School (3-8) Thanksgiving morning in their annual matchup. Coming off of a season in which they remained undefeated until a loss in the title match against Cardinal Spellman, Arlington Catholic was looking to capitalize on the Spy Ponders' three-win season and avenge their 42-14 loss to AHS last Thanksgiving. They did just that. Not allowing AHS to put any points on the board until well into the second half, the Cougars held the Spy Ponders at dock and emerged victorious with a 28-7 score.

In just one half of play, Bernard Lynch had done enough damage. A scoreless game for the first 6:30 quickly turned into a scoring frenzy. Lynch's only reception came first, a 66-yard run to put Arlington Catholic on the board first. Bishop Fenwick responded two minutes later on a 4th-and-4 with a 72-yard touchdown by sophomore James Traversey, and a successful two-point conversion put Bishop Fenwick up 8-7. A first-game 25-22 victory coming back from a deficit for Arlington High School was not enough to fend off the Belmont Marauders. The second game started off even, the score tied at 1, 2 and 3. A few minutes later—the score 21-15 in Arlington's favor—a second victory seemed certain. However, Belmont came from behind and won the game 25-23. Game 3, a crucial turning point in momentum for both teams, resulted in a 25-20 Belmont victory, and it was over from then on. Belmont led by as many as 9 points in game 4 before winning by 10 with a score of 25-15.

Even playing an away game, Wakefield Memorial High School showed their confidence from the very beginning. Starting a game with an onside kick is a bit risky and unorthodox, yet Wakefield decided to go that route Thursday. The risky opening move ended up benefitting neither team, the game remaining scoreless until 2:59 left in the first quarter when Wakefield running back Josh Puccio made a run in excess of 50 yards for a touchdown. He then scored again with 6:46 remaining in the half, and after Arlington High School quarterback Seth Coiley was tripped up in the backfield, forcing them to …
