Brigham's Is Back in Arlington Heights

State releases seizure Friday after "payment agreement" reached.

The owners of the Brigham's in Arlington Heights have reclaimed their restaurant, state Department of Revenue spokesman Dan Bertrand said Friday morning. He said the owners have entered into a "payment agreement" with the state to tackle their overdue taxes. The restaurant, at the corner of Massachusetts and Park avenues, was seized by the state Tuesday. Check back with Arlington Patch for more information as it becomes available.

5 Things to Know About Brigham's Seizure

A quick-hit guide to the restaurant's situation.

1.) THE BASICS: The Brigham’s restaurant at the corner of Massachusetts and Park avenues in Arlington Heights was seized by the state Department of Revenue Tuesday morning for “nonpayment of taxes.” The restaurant’s locks were changed, and a bright orange “SEIZED” notice (pictured) was put in its front-door window. 2.) HOW MUCH?: The restaurant’s owners, John Mercer and Steven Kupelnick, owe the state $92,387 in meals tax dating back to 2009, according to Department of Revenue spokesman Robert Bliss on Wednesday. 3.) NEXT STEPS: The owners have roughly four to six weeks to come up with a “substantial” down payment toward the overdue amount and to set up a payment plan, Bliss said. Local Bank Bought, But Branches Will Stay Open

Central Bank has been purchased by Rockland Trust.

Somerville-based Central Bank has been purchased by Rockland Trust, according to a press release issued Tuesday morning. The Central Bank branch on Broadway and the bank's eight other locations will all remain open as Rockland Trust branches, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. The sale will cost Rockland Trust's parent company Independent Bank Corp about $55 million and is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Central Bank was established in 1915. It operates branches in Arlington, Burlington, Chestnut Hill, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Somerville and Woburn.

Brigham's Seized by State

The Arlington Heights restaurant has been seized for "nonpayment of taxes."

The Brigham’s restaurant at 1328 Massachusetts Ave. has been seized by the state for “nonpayment of taxes,” according to a bright orange notice in the restaurant’s front door Tuesday evening. The Brigham’s, one of the few, if not the only, one left in the state, has been a fixture at the corner of Massachusetts and Park avenues in Arlington Heights. The notice reads: “The business property of Brigham’s of Belmont/Brigham’s Ice Cream has been seized for nonpayment of taxes, and is now in possession of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
