Just to be clear those 26 spots are on Mass Ave!

Someone should drop a dime on Arlington's municipal employees with the IRS. By charging ACRead More$50/mont h for on street and municipal lot parking, but allowing municipal employees to park on public property for free, it may be considered an employee benefit and subject to tax. Did you know that almost 1,000 spots are taken by municipal employees to park around Arlington, in lots and on the streets. Today, as I drove by the almost empty municipal parking lot, I couldn't help but notice the dozens of cars parked along Mystic St and the two in the cemetery. Why municipal employees can't walk from one of the municipal lots or the many spots along the bikepath and convenient to the AHS, Robbins and Town Hall is just another example of a two tiered system; the rulers and the sheeple.

Please let me conclude, seeing no one wants to speak out! If you are part of the machine you getRead Morep ay raises at what % who knows? (there are some of us still in a recession) With so many town employees now selectmen are giving away free parking on our public streets, and in our cemetery, and who knows what other free B’s that we don’t know of. The machine just keeps on spending our money and will be looking for more soon CPA! If you are just a taxpayer and not part of the machine, well we get fees, the right to pay for parking, tax increases!... What's wrong? Local government does what it wants, and flip’s the BIG BIRD to the rest of us!!.. Not one comment from any of the towines today because loose lips sink ships!..don’t say a word and it we GO AWAY! I find it odd that taxpayers don’t care that the SELECTMEN just flipped us the bird!.... Well, right back at ya!

How about the kids feeling lucky they have had a place to hang and start to police themselves...Read MoreMos t kids do not bust bottles, leave trash, and mar things with graffiti. The few that do ruin it for not only themselves, but the majority when the police have to step in, watch the place, and kick them out or arrest them. When I was younger we kept our own roadie but immature friends in line so that we wouldn't lose out because they couldn't control themselves yet. We didn't expect neighbors or those living near our hang outs to put up with nonsense or clean up after us. Maybe those that hang out at Turkey Hill should police their own hang out before the town police are forced to?
Carol Corchado June 29, 2014 at 12:01 PM
Why should anyone have to pick up after someone else. Teach your kids a valuable lesson pick upRead Moreafte r yourself! My child always did and still does.
Zoltan June 29, 2014 at 01:17 PM
APD will probably roust the Turkey Hill youngsters within the next week or two. They'll make aRead Morecoup le of token arrests, kids will be placed in diversion program and spend their summer performing community service. Problem solved.

No $hit Sherlock; I knew about the Minuteman SC example as well as half a dozen other ones before I Read Moreposted. Arlington's Board of Selectmen regularly violate the law and morons like Sprague and patch trolls like Richhead and JohnB provide them political cover by attacking anyone who holds officials accountable. Sprague is the worst, using cover as a journalist. This is just one of the reasons why I say Sprague has no credibility. Why don't you, Sprague, ask the AG for a determination? It is what a real news organization would do.

"Linda": Perhaps for the benefit of those who are not as smart you, you might explainRead Morewhat the "Minuteman SC example" is. You might also add how the decision bears on what Dan Dunn wrote to the Arlington List last week. These explanation would be more helpful than the usual name-calling.

I've wondered also if permits were granted to put those planting boxes on town property in front of Read Morethe old Wayside Inn, at about 395 Mass Ave, near the corner of Franklin. Its the second year they have been there. Can anybody do what they want with the town owned strips of land between sidewalk and street?
Bea Sprague June 12, 2014 at 08:19 AM
No you cannot That bike rack has to go.
Mark Kaepplein June 04, 2014 at 11:07 PM
Johnny, that's the rumor. He resigned from the Assessor's board because they vote in the newRead Moreassesso r and he couldn't vote for himself. So, Selectmen wanted to quietly find a quick replacement for his board seat who will then vote for Jim!
Johnny R June 05, 2014 at 07:58 AM
Same old B.S. from the BoS. any problem with BoS chair appointing his Daddy! sort of. Keeping itRead Morea ll in the family! Screw the rest of us.
Johnny R June 05, 2014 at 08:53 PM
Three-member Board of Assessors has one vacant seat, due to resignation of Jim Doherty. These areRead Morep art-time elected positions (three-year terms, one elected every year), each paying just under $5k yearly. The upcoming joint meeting of Selectmen and the two remaining Assessors looks to appoint a third Assessor to fill the vacancy until the next Town Election. The Board of Assessors hires a Director of Assessments, a full-time position paying in the $90K-$100K range. This is also vacant due to departure of previous Director of Assessments John Speidel...Looks like somebody going to make out, then rise our taxes again (CPA) and again (override) this town just keeps sucking the money out of us.

One other thing. Patriots day has simply become marathon day. Particularly this year.

Read Morehttp://www.baltimoresun.com/features/parenting/homefront/bal-memorial-day-vs-veterans-day-20120528,0 ,1402423.story Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

Julia Problem is really all the moon bats who hate war and anything related, which includesRead Morerespecti ng our fallen soldiers. Ignorance is golden in this isolated town. You should have been around when Bush was in office and all the moon bats protesting. Funny how when obummer took office the ridiculous protests stopped even though obummer continued Bush's policy in Iraq and Afgahnistan. Even the moron on Jason street was so proud to lament with a sign showing how many died in Iraq mysteriously took the sign down when obummer took office. Welcome to your libtard community. BTW We go to Cromwell CT every Memorial day and it is an amazing site seeing flowers put on graves and then the parade on the 30th (which we only make when it falls on Memorial Day weekend). Respect is hard to find in this neck of the woods.

Unfortunately it has happened to me several times. I think it is horrible that people can stoop so Read Morelow and steal something off someone's grave.
Ray Hillar May 26, 2014 at 09:39 AM
Many cemeteries have problems with deer and rabbits eating flowers.
Zoltan May 26, 2014 at 02:55 PM
The theft of flowers from gravesites at Mt. Pleasant has been occurring for many years. In theRead Mores pring and summer nice floral decorations placed in the remote sections of the cemetery tend to disappear within a week. Police in other communities have had success in reducing thefts from cemeteries by burying a tracking device within the flower pot. One person who was recently apprehended stated that she felt anything left at the cemetery for more than seven days was free for the taking.

I'm with you Rich H. those scumbag Assessors are supposed to assess all properties at 100% marketRead Morev alue. It looks like they give breaks to their buddies and the big property owners in town.
Dave May 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM
Assessments are done by third party mass appraisers, and they have it pretty much automated.Read MoreArlingt on uses Patriot Properties. The problem with the largest of houses is because there are so few in this town for comparison.
Dave May 18, 2014 at 10:33 AM
BTW I have tracked many houses and assessments for smaller houses are never close to their value.Read MoreNe xt door house is assessed at $450k and just sold for $750k. House across street assessed for $500k and sold for $675k. I would say most are assessed at 70% of current value. Mainly because they use two year old sales to arrive at their "100% market value"
