What Makes Arlington So Popular?

Arlington is one of those towns that everyone seems to like. If Arlington were a person, it would be the one you want to take to the dance or share your ice cream with. Our high school yearbook might say, “Most Likely to Earn Best Urban/Suburban Living.” Our profile might look something like this:

  • Just enough attitude to be hip, yet cultured without being stuffy
  • Something for everyone
  • Active, professional, educated
  • Liked and well-respected
  • Sought after

What else makes Arlington so popular? Think proximity. Arlington is sandwiched in between Cambridge and Lexington. You have Cambridge, which is like the Brooklyn of Boston – a very populated, trendy and eclectic urban area. Head a few short miles down Mass. Ave. and you have Lexington – a historic, refined and prestigious community.

Except, not everyone can afford the 02421 zip code of Lexington, and not everyone wants to raise a family or sacrifice space to be in Cambridge.

Enter, Arlington (with some swagger). Strategically situated in between two very different yet very popular suburbs of Boston, Arlington offers a more affordable taste of both an urban and suburban lifestyle for hipsters looking to start a family, boomers looking to downsize, or anyone who wants some space, some yard, and still be able to easily commute in to Boston.

Looking for a new place to live requires some thought: Backyard garden or roof deck with a city view? Good schools or access to the arts? CSA or morning cappuccino at the corner café? Fortunately, you can have your cake (from Lakota Bakery) and eat it (on your way to the Regent Theater), too.

Arlington has a little something for everyone -- without having to sacrifice your identity or your lifestyle. And that’s pretty cool.

Arlington is not much cheaper than 02421, as a realtor you should know that. Although maybe you do realize it each time you get your commission

Joe, I appreciate your input. If you compare single family home prices in Arlington to Lexington, you will find that they are, in fact, higher (the latest Boston Magazine has the median price of a single family home in Arlington listed at $497,350, the price of a single family home in Lexington is $693,500 for 2010). It's up to the client to determine what characteristics they value in a home and a town. Thanks for your comment, and I hope my answer was helpful.
