Senior citizens work as hard to stay in their homes as our industry works to help our clients move. “Aging in Place” is becoming a goal of more and more senior citizens.  Technology has made this a more appealing option. Many of today’s security systems offer options which give seniors and their caregivers peace of mind and a level of protection that in the past was only achieved with a live-in situation.

“For example, interactive security solutions enable a control to be put on a medicine cabinet and have alerts sent to the caregiver’s mobile device if the senior doesn’t access their medication on time. Live video monitoring, keyless entry and lights/ energy controls are other ways in which a senior can enjoy the independence of living in their own home and still give the caregiver instant awareness if a problem arises,” notes Daniel Markarian of Markarian Electric. He not only installs these systems but has had a real life experience with one of these revolutionary wireless services in caring for his own mother.

Of course cost is often a consideration, but when analyzed in comparison to full time live-in care or the monthly cost in assisted living residences it is quite modest. One family, where the monthly cost is shared by a brother and sister, report that the peace of mind they have makes their investment “priceless.”
