Here's the list of what is open and closed in Arlington and Massachusetts on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 and Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012:
Open on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25 (at owner’s discretion):

- Restaurants/Bars/Taverns
- Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Some may be operating with limited hours. (For instance, the Arlington Heights Starbucks will be open, the Arlington Center Starbucks won't.)
Closed on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25:
- Retail stores
- Supermarkets
- Banks
- Arlington Town Hall
- Robbins and Fox libraries (closed Dec. 24 and 25)
- Arlington Recreation (closed Dec. 24 and 25)
- Ed Burns Arena (closed Dec. 25)
- Post Offices
No Trash or Recycling Collections on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25:
There will be no trash or recycling collections on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, or New Year's Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1. Tuesday's collection will be picked up on Wednesday. There will be a one-day delay for the remainder of the week. The Friday pick-up will be delayed until Saturday.

Subway
The subway will run a normal schedule on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24. On Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25:
- The Red Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Orange Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Blue Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Green B-, C-, D-, and E-Lines will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Silver Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
Commuter Rail
The commuter rail will run a normal schedule on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24. On Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25:
- The Fairmount Line will not operate.
- The Fitchburg/South Acton Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Framingham/Worcester Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Franklin Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Greenbush Line will not operate.
- The Haverhill Line will operate a Sunday schedule.
- The Kingston/Plymouth Line will not operate.

The RIDE
On Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, The RIDE will operate on a normal schedule on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, The RIDE will operate a Sunday schedule. Arlington residents should contact Greater Lynn Senior Services at 888-319-7433 (for TTY, 800-621-0420) for details regarding Christmas service information.
Boat
Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24:
- F1 - Hingham Service will operate a modified weekday schedule. Additional service from Rowes Wharf to Hingham will operate at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. departures from Rowes Wharf will not operate. The last departure from Rowes Wharf to Hingham will be at 7:00 p.m.
- F2/F2H - Quincy Service will operate a modified weekday schedule. Three additional stops will be made in Hull: the 12:05 p.m. departure from Long Wharf will stop in Hull at 12:20 p.m. and arrive in Quincy at 12:35 p.m.; the 1:25 p.m. departure from Long Wharf will stop in Hull at 1:55 p.m. and arrive in Quincy at 2:10 p.m.; and the 2:15 p.m. departure from Long Wharf will stop in Hull at 2:35 p.m. and arrive in Quincy at 3:00 p.m. There will be no evening service after the 6:05 p.m. departure from Long Wharf.
- F4 - Charlestown Service will operate a regular weekday schedule.
Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25:
- F1 - Hingham Service will not operate.
- F2/F2H - Quincy Service will not operate.
- F4 - Charlestown Service will not operate.
