VIDEO: Jingle Ride Spreads Holiday Cheer

The 14th annual Jingle Ride from Arlington to Boston drew dozens of costume-clad cyclists on Sunday.

About 40 cyclists in holiday-themed costumes set off on the 14th annual Jingle Ride on Sunday from Jam'n Java, for a jaunt into Boston along the Minuteman Bikeway Rail-Trail.

Riders decorated their bicycles, which ranged from racing bikes to tandems, with bells, Christmas trees and antlers, while many participants wore ribbons, bows and other ornaments on their helmets.

"It's really all about fun," said event founder Lauren Hefferon, sporting a Rudolph costume and a splotch of red paint on her nose. "We sing and we carol and we have a good time."

Cambridge residents Everett Briggs and his wife, Hollie Briggs, rode tandem on a refurbished two-seater they decorated with Christmas ribbon.

"Hollie and I have ridden many, many miles on this horse, with great pleasure," Briggs said. "Our favorite ride is from Manhattan to Montauk. It's a one-day trip, it happens every May and we enjoy riding it on our tandem."

The Jingle Ride raises funds through donations for MassBike, a nonprofit dedicated to cycling advocacy, including working toward improving bike paths and road safety.

"We're just trying to get more people out there riding and having a great time," said David Watson, executive director of MassBike.
