[UPDATE] Child, Adults Rescued from Spy Pond

Three year old reportedly in serious condition after being taken from pond; adults also taken to hospitals.

A large hole in the snow on Spy Pond is the only evidence of a dramatic Sunday evening rescue by Arlington Police and Fire Departments of three people who fell into the water sometime after 5 p.m. behind the Spy Pond Condominiums.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Arlington 911 received reports that a three-year-old child and two adults fell through the ice in the area of Linwood Street at Spy Pond. Firefighters arrived and immediately entered the water to rescue the victims.

Emergency service reports indicated the three-year-old was transported in serious condition to Boston's Children's Hospital. Both adults also left the scene in ambulance, being taken to Mount Auburn Hospital.

In addition, police at the scene said ambulances were also going to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston's Fenway neighborhood.

An Arlington Police spokesman said at 6 p.m. that officers were on their way to the hospitals to interview the adults. They said additional information will be available after 8 p.m.

I blame this tragedy on the Arlington List. One guy in particular posts about pond skating when it is definitely not safe to be on the ice, he did so this past week and a couple other moonbats chimed in about what a wonderful idea it is.

Take ideas from the Arlington List at your own peril!

My heart goes out to this family. Everyone should be told, it is rarely safe to go on Spy Pond because it is spring fed. I pray that the child is all right.

It is ridiculous to blame the Arlington List or anyone on the list who talks about pond skating. The blame lies solely at the feet of the adults who decided to go out onto the ice with their 3 year old child. I feel terrible for them, and wish them all the best, but it was a terrible idea from start to finish.

I've spoken to people (nicely, gently) when I see them walking on Spy Pond and have been replied to with "mind your own business" or "don't worry about it." Now I say nothing. There's no way to cure stupidity anyway.
