How about getting out and cleaning out your storm drains? Would that be too much to ask?

And one other point. Convoys of power workers from CANADA are on their way. And convoys from Florida and the Midwest are coming to restore service. What is wrong with local power workers restoring service in this area? This is how the rate payers are getting shafted by power companies. We pay big rates for outside help. Where are our local power company workers? This should outrage you.

You realize that the power companies have a mutual support pact. That we do the same for them when they have a disaster. There are only so many linemen.

Saul,

Hard to know where to start... you are at the back of the class. Electric utilities trade crews during disasters and it works well. Your rates are not nearly as high as they could be. Wait until Cape Wind is in the rate base.

Oh noes! Canadians! Quelle horreur!

Anyhow, our local power company workers are already working, but there aren't enough of them.

Or would you prefer the power companies hire enough people to handle any major power event in-house, even if it means the lots and lots of those workers are sitting on their thumbs with nothing to do 99.9% of the time? Now *that* sounds like a great way to shaft the ratepayers.

My point Quantum is this. If your son, or daughter, or wife, son in law, or even yourself, needed a job, such as a middle class, union, job with NSTAR, would you object to it? Would you object to a family member of yours earning a good wage, with benefits, 401k and pension, and job security, or would you reject the idea? Of course not. They wouldn't mind sitting on their thumbs for a while? Would you?

Saul that shows how out of touch with how things operate . With a storm this large and so many cities and towns being effected there is no way our utility companies can handle this alone. Typical statement from someone who has no idea

Here is my point. NSTAR make a lot of money, and your rates are never going to go down. That's a fact
NSTAR, and other utilities, outsource our American jobs to India, Pakistan, and the Phillipines, you know, call center jobs. Jobs that me, you, our wives, sons and daughters should have. These countries hate us. And we send work to them?
Nstar starts importing workers from Canada to restore service after the storm. This is importing labor from foreign countries to do our work. We are importing labor from Canada to do our jobs? American people need these jobs.
What if they brought workers in from Mexico? Would that make you mad?
The american workers in other parts of the country should have been brought in, before any foreign workers.

They are not just bringing in workers from Canada, they are bringing in workers from Texas, other states, etc. Canada because they are the only other major country near by that uses our electrical system. What you say makes no sense.

Well Patrick, i still object to using Canadian workers to do American work. Do we have a unemployment problem in this country?

Are the Canadian workers required to leave any payroll taxes when they work here? I don't know, but my guess is no. They clean up and take their money home to Canada. I am TOTALLY opposed to this .

Well Tim, if you read what i said, i am in favor of the working person. I want NSTAR to hire our family members, mine and yours, and all utilities to hire Americans.
Tim, can you hear what i write?

Reverend. With all due respect, and highest regards to your profession, and your wisdom, I am for American jobs. I am for middle class jobs, provided by union represented jobs. I want Americans to get wages for American jobs. Again, i want Americans to restore service to our country, after this storm, not a foreign country, like Canada. Why not?

What's wrong Saul ? Cat got your tongue ? So Saul do you think those gentlemen from central America are here legally ? Do you think they are being paid well by the owner of those big green trucks with yellow letters ? Chime in anytime Saul your all for the US worker .. I hate seeing my tax dollars paying for a private contractor doing work for the town using illegal immigrate workers ... Tell me your thoughts Please .

Again Saul you have no idea what you don't have any idea on what you are talking about. The utility companies have an agreement with Canada and Canada with the United States to assist with such emergencys . Why is the town using private tree contractors? If your so worried about Americans working take a good look at one of those contractors , they use central Americans for their labor . Probably paying these minimum wage .. That's who you should be worrying about Saul ...
