Rebecca Robinson Sprints to Sixth State Title

Arlington High's Rebecca Robinson had another All-State meet to remember Tuesday.

senior sprinter Rebecca Robinson won the sixth individual state title of her career Tuesday at the MIAA All-State Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Fitchburg State College.

Robinson, who will attend Syracuse University in the fall, took the 200-meter dash in 24.74 seconds, finishing more than a quarter-second in front of her nearest competitor, Oxford’s Emily Dawidczyk (25.01). Earlier in the day, Robinson had the fastest time in the qualifying heats, 24.72.

This past winter, Robinson won the 300-meter dash at the indoor state meet in 39.51. As a junior, she took the 400-meter dash at the outdoor meet by more than a second, in 56.22, and the 55-meter and 300-meter dashes at the indoor meet in 7.22 and 39.39, respectively.  Her first state title came at the outdoor meet during her sophomore year, where she won the 200-meter dash in 24.77.

On Tuesday, Robinson also teamed up with fellow senior Hannah Struever and juniors Kay Downey-Wall and Sarah Cassidy for a tenth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team ran 4:06.42.

Robinson’s 200-meter win gave Arlington 10 points in the team competition, putting them in 19th place. Newton North won the girls’ team competition with 52 points.

Stipp, McDonald-Meteer Impressive in Boys’ Mile

Arlington High senior Quentin Stipp and junior Daniel McDonald-Meteer both finished in the top 10 in the boys’ mile.

Stipp ran 4:18.12 to place sixth, McDonald Meteer 4:21.89 to finish ninth.

Also in the mile, junior Kevin Connors finished 20th in 4:29.31.

Stipp’s mile got Arlington three points in the team competition. Mansfield won the boys’ team competition with 49 points.

Arlington Catholic senior Becca Gonsalves also qualified for the meet. She finished 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.24. Arlington Catholic girls’ 4x400-meter team of Gonsalves, senior Emma Roberson, sophomore Serena McNary and freshman Sarah Maimone was 23rd in 4:19.39.
