Police Seeking Suspect in Nana's Mart Armed Assault

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police are seeking a suspect in a Sunday assault with a dangerous weapon in front of Nana’s Mart, 456A Massachusetts Ave., in Arlington Center.

About 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, a man entered the store to purchase cigarettes when the suspect asked him “If he had a problem,” according to the police report. The man told the man he had no problem and the suspect walked outside, according to the report.

The victim said that, once outside the store, the suspect approached him again and allegedly said, “I don’t fight, I shoot. Do you know who I am?” The victim told police the man pulled his shirt up revealing a firearm in his waistband, which he then pointed at the victim, according to the report.

The suspect said he needed to get on the bus and ran eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue, though the victim didn’t see if the suspect made it into the bus, according to the report.

Police describe the man as a light-skinned black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, in his 20s with braided hair. The man was wearing a New Era baseball hat and an oversized jacket and jeans. The firearm is described as small and black.

The Arlington Police Department put out alerts to the Cambridge Police Department and MBTA officials. They stopped at least two men on Sunday, but they proved to not be armed and were cleared.

Later, the victim told police he believed the man was “drunk and did not know what he was doing,” according to the report.
