Police Log: Arlington Man Too Smart for Internet Scam

Incidents and arrests in Arlington on Thursday, March 29.

Fake Job Offer Doesn’t Fool Grove Street Man

A Grove Street resident was reportedly the target of an Internet scam, but he wasn’t duped, according to police.

The resident recently received a job offer online. After, he was asked to sign and date a document and return it to the company, which he did. Then, he was told that he’d be receiving a check for $2,900 – he was told to deposit the check and wire back $1,900 of it to the company.

The resident did receive the check last week but grew suspicious after talking to Bank of America employees, who advised him that it was probably a scam.

He reported the incident at about 10:10 a.m. Thursday.
