Police have identified the Arlington teenager found dead in Menotomy Rocks Park Monday from an apparent suicide.

Shaira Ali, 16, was the deceased, according to Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan.

“Given that this incident is not suspected to have involved a criminal act, the Arlington Police Department goes to extraordinary measures to protect the identity of the victim,” Ryan wrote in a statement. “However, in this instance, the victim’s family has authorized the release of the victim’s identity.”

Despite the results of the preliminary investigation, Arlington Police are conducting a full investigation with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The Arlington Police Department, through its mental health clinician, has been providing around the clock support and resources to the Ali family, and it is asking the media, as well as well-intentioned residents, to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time, according to Ryan’s statement.
