Senior Carolyn Woodin scored twice Monday, as the 19th-seeded Arlington High girls’ hockey team won 2-0 at No. 14 Watertown/Melrose in the preliminary round of the Division 1 state tournament.
The Spy Ponders (12-8-1) advance to face No. 3 Westford (15-3-2) Thursday at Groton High School.
On Monday, at John Ryan Arena in Watertown, Woodin got things going Arlington’s way early, scoring just 1:36 into the game. Woodin’s first goal was assisted by senior Shannon Hickey and junior Meredith Gallagher.
Arlington then thwarted two Watertown/Melrose power plays late in the first period.
Late in the second, Woodin struck again. This time, senior Shannon Reilly and freshman Ysabella Campbell-Breen earned assists.
The Spy Ponders also hit the posts three times in the game.
Arlington’s Meredith Gilligan got the shutout in net.
