Opening Night: 'The 39 Steps'

The show starts at 8 p.m. tonight at the Arlington Friends of the Drama.

 

Today is Friday, Jan. 25. Here are five things you need to know.

1.) “The 39 Steps” opens tonight at the Arlington Friends of the Drama, 22 Academy St.

“Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have ‘The 39 Steps,’ a fast-paced whodunit. This award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, and a good old-fashioned romance. Catch this great cast and fun for the whole family!”

Tonight’s show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Read more.

2.) Arlington High School’s Battle of the Bands is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Regent Theatre. Tickets are $10 today, $12 at the door, with all proceeds going toward the high school’s STAND club, which raises awareness and funds for humanitarian causes. Read more.

3.) Robbins Library will show a movie for teens at 3 p.m. today. Read more.

4.) The Arlington High girls’ basketball team will host Wilmington at 7 p.m. tonight; the girls’ gymnastics team will host Reading at 7:30 p.m. The boys’ basketball team will be at Wilmington at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams will compete in the Coaches Invitational Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, and the wrestling team will be at Methuen at 9 a.m. The boys’ hockey team will host Melrose at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, the girls’ basketball team will be at Waltham at 4 p.m.

5.) Today’s high is expected to be 21 degrees, but with the wind, it could feel like -12, according to the National Weather Service. Less than an inch of snow is expected to hit the area late tonight. Saturday and Sunday should both be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 20s.
