National Ice Cream Month Couldn't Come Any Sooner

It's sizzling out. Why not go for some ice cream here in Arlington?

Celebrating summer with good food and good friends on the Fourth of July was just the beginning. Just this month there is also Bastille Day, July 14, when you can totally indulge your French food cravings. And it just happens to be National Ice cream month.

Not only is this an excuse to go out for ice cream this month, but ice cream sundae parties are a perfect, fun, easy way to entertain guests of all ages. Not everyone has access to some of the most unique Sundae "fixin's" but here in Arlington we've got all sorts of goodies to make the perfect sundae bar.

You can start with some ice cream—or rather frozen custard—from the Chilly Cow. Chilly Cow has a selection of a dozen flavors:  Vanilla, Chocolate, Black Raspberry, Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream, Hazelnut, Mocha Almond Chip, Chocolate, Oreo, Grapenut, Stawberry, Ginger and Peppermint Stick.

If you're not quite up for throwing your own sundae party you can hone your skills in house. Chilly Cow's signature sundae is The Monster. It is a monstrously huge banana split of sorts. The Monster is made with two brownies, a banana and your custom choices of two scoops of ice cream, two wet toppings, two dry toppings, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles (or jimmies if you prefer to call them that) and a cherry for each person sharing the experience.

If you prefer a more classic ice cream rather than frozen custard, there is always Brigham's, and the Capitol Creamery serves up Richardson's Ice cream with a large selection of their flavors.

Once you're ready to make your own concoction, you can pick up cookies or brownies from Quebrada, Bella Moto or Lakota Bakery to make your own ice cream sandwiches and sundaes. In addition, there are many ice-cream-worthy goodies to be found weekly at the farmers' market.

Aida-Lula Pastry has cookies that are great crumbled as a topping. Danish Pastry House has plenty of goodies as well. Sassy Sauces make the perfect saucy topping to adorn your sundae. Then of course, you can't forget all the fresh berries that are making their way from farm to topping. You can also take a grater or peeler and shave some fabulous Taza chocolate over it all. Then top it off with one of Capitol Creamery's exotic chocolate dipped or special soaked cherries.
