Local Business Owner Helps Injured Soldiers

Jim Quinn, of Ink Jam Tattoo Studio, recently raised $12,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.

An Arlington business owner has helped raise more than $12,000 for injured soldiers and their families.

Jim Quinn, owner of Ink Jam Tattoo Studio at 12 Park Ave., organized a bike run on August 15 to benefit the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, which provides financial assistance to service men and women in all branches of the military who have been injured in post-Sept. 11 combat. More than 200 people, including many Arlington residents, and 150 motorcycles took part in the event, which went from the Harley-Davidson dealership in Everett to the Maynard Rod and Gun Club.

"We had always thought about doing a bike run and barbecue," Quinn said recently, "so we thought, 'Why not do something useful, something positive?'"

Quinn, a Lowell resident, said he has no personal connection to the military, but he does tattoo a number of soldiers on their way to or from Iraq and Afghanistan. His co-worker, Amanda Ortiz, also has a sister currently in Afghanistan.

Quinn completed the 25-mile, police-escorted trek on his Harley-Davidson Road Warrior, which is usually parked outside his shop. He said he plans to hold the event for a second time next summer.
