Howie Carr’s Take on Arlington’s ‘Moonbats’

The Boston Herald columnist wrote about the recent news with James Marzilli and Annie LaCourt on Sunday.

Howie Carr, the Boston Herald columnist and conservative talk radio host, gave his take Sunday on the two former Arlington politicians who have recently been in the news for the wrong reasons.

In his Sunday column, “Partying like the moonbats,” Carr wrote about former state Sen. James Marzilli, who is facing new accusations in Watertown but no new charges, and former Selectwoman Annie LaCourt, who, along with her husband, is being charged in connection with an Oct. 19 underage drinking party at their Chatham Street home.

Carr's column:

For the moonbats of Arlington, these are the best of times, these are the worst of times, to coin a phrase.

On the positive side for the pony-tailed, trust-funded, Birkenstock-clad geriatric hippies of Menotomy, there was Dear Leader’s 50 percent landslide last week.

On the downside, two of Arlington’s leading loony limousine liberals – moonbats’ moonbats, you might say – have found themselves ensnared in the criminal justice system.

[ ... ]

Needless to say, these two tragic events have caused quite a stir in town. The blow-in drifter moonbats, who would love to live in Cambridge but don’t have large enough trust funds, are shocked, shocked.

The “townies,” on the other hand, the locals who actually have real jobs and work for a living, are more than somewhat amused.

Read Carr’s entire column.

Marzilli back in court?

Marzilli could be back in court on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a judge to determine whether he violated his probation, according to a Boston Herald report. His defense attorney, however, is fighting the hearing, the article states.

Roughly three weeks ago, on Friday, Oct. 26, Marzilli allegedly stood in the doorway of his Watertown home, wearing only a dress shirt, and watched a female neighbor do yard work, according to a Fox 25 News report. After about 10 minutes, the woman called police when Marzilli touched his bare thigh, Fox reported.

Marzilli told police that he was wearing shorts at the time of the incident, but the neighbor disputed this claim, according to the report.

Marzilli, who was also a member of the state House of Representatives and Arlington government in his career, pleaded guilty last year to lewdly harassing four women on the streets of Lowell in 2008.

Arlington residents make Howie's job as talk show host easy. The danger is that Arlington will merge with the Republic of Cambridge and Howie will have only one group of moonbats on display.

Now finally some real journalism . Thank You Howie . These two need to spend some time as guests of the Commonwealth . Let's no forget Mrs. LaCourts husband . Mr "it's no big deal just a few beers" . As I was smoking a big cigar on my deck reading that wonderful article all I could think of was how funny KARMA works. SEE both of those fools caused harm to my family and now they are going through a little turmoil themselves ... Funny How Karma works ..... The Badger

Howie's absolutely right. The same moonbats who got that idiotic leaf blower ban put in place are the ones who live in 4000 sq ft houses and ski in vail every winter. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. I'm just saying that all of this stuff pollutes. I may want to run a leaf blower, you may want to ski in Vail.

Steve when someone like Howie ,myself and yourself expresses and exposes the truth we get branded as loudmouths , trouble makers and so on by the liberal mindset . But even worse you have people like the blogger who are affraid to speak their mind and just put their tail between their legs. It absolutely disgusts me that women are this guys biggest fan . He is a monster who is going to attack and some women is going to suffer .. As for the booze party thrower . She is arrogant , the cops gave her a break last time because of who she was but she didn't learn her lesson and continued to throw more party's . It disgusts me that people are coming to her defense ... But than again she was the Boss's Boss .... Ha

wow. The adult level of discourse here -- the usual ad hominem attacks based on what mostly seem to be envious sour grapes, because most have no real facts to display, just snarkery* -- continues to amaze. And depress. I'm going to have to come up with an ad hominem attack label for anti-moonbat-ers who can't form a sentence that contains much more than that phrase. Any suggestions? This could be fun. Or a complete waste of seconds of my life. Like reading ANY of Tim "I'm-A-REAL-Arlintonian-anyone-who-disagrees-is-a-moonbat-REAL-Arlingtonian-wannabe" public whines (Tim! Tim to secede and move to Canada with your alter ego Rush!), and the first 2 sentences of "too-immature-to-have-an-adult-name" Howie's spew.

I'm not saying that the people in trouble don't deserve jailtime for their misdeeds. Just don't get the continual "oh, it's the moonbats!" as if using that terms explains everything and puts the user on some higher, untouchable ground.

For me, the word "moonbats" conjures up a lovely children's story about flying faery wings and night time adventures in the sky. It makes me smile when I see it.

IntheJohnnie See the moonbat Mindset they do not have to live by rules like everyone else. They think can leave the car out overnight because thats a silly law and I dont have to go by it. Its ok to stop in the middle of traffic and walk little Nathan to his school bus while eveyone behind them waits. The Moonbat mindset does not think about anyone else but themselves and no one else.

I agree with Tim. I've seen them...park in front of the mailbox in front of the post office where cars can pull up and drop in their mail....ride their bikes up mass ave, with that ridiculous little cart about 12" off the street with a baby/small child, behind them (so they can't see them, of course). I was even driving up Mass Ave one day, and came upon one riding her bike, with a baby in the basket on the front of the bike (like Toto in the Wizard of Oz).... they park in handicapped spaces. Then, there's the classic... a past town official (present town committee member) serving alcohol to underage students. Rules apply to everyone,,, but the moonbats !!! They should be thanking their lucky stars one of the students who was drunk didn't get behind the wheel of a car, and kill someone...or themselves!!! What is happening to this town is pathetic, and very sad, as Arlington at one time was a very desirable place to live.

One of the liberal tenets is there are no limits. Any kind of behavior is okay, after all, 'who are we to judge?' This is why LaCourt and Marzilli's performances are defended by so many Arlington residents.

Following the trend in Massachusetts over the last few years, Howie Carr has wondered how long it will be before a person can marry their pet? This pioneering experiment in 'equality' might well take place in Arlington or Cambridge.

Well, let's see. I was 16 in 1966. Swinging 60's, I grew up in Manhattan, went to Music and Art (you've seen Fame? it's the sister school). Was having sex with my high school boyfriend. And my mother used to let my high school friends come on and drink beer and smoke pot. And my mother was no loose woman, in any sense. So WHY? Because, she said, "You're going to do it anyway, whether I like it or not. I'd rather have you here, SAFE, and not wandering around the streets or in cars, where I can make sure no one gets into trouble out there." Teens may be legally "children," but they are hardly "victims" (in this area: sexual abuse/intimidation is a whole 'nother can o' worms not for this particular discussion). They are going to do it anyway, anyhow. Always have, always will. I'm not saying let's give all the teens free access to the bar! I'm saying we need a more cooperative, adult discussion with them about it in order to keep everyone safe. And you know what else teens do? they figure out what their boundaries are by going uncomfortably beyond them, then deciding where to pull back/rein themselves in. Unfortunately that means getting wasted. Is a 21 year old is more capable of managing themselves than a 17 year old? Maybe. Depends on the person. I've known immature 50 year olds/mature 16 year olds. Like me: I had no interest in getting stoned or drunk at 16. And I married that high school boyfriend I was sleeping with. We had 25 good years together before he died.

WD25: I agree that I would not personally "furnish" alcohol, etc., to anyone under the legal age. We should ask ourselves why is the legal age lower in Europe. They're a much older civilization than we, and I don't have stats on drunk driving fatalities, etc., from all of Europe: but I do have a BFF who lives in France and she says it's just no biggie there, kids even have some wine with dinner. When it's not forbidden fruit, the kids don't go out of their way to rebel and do it just because they've been told they're not allowed. I'd rather the police spent their time and our tax dollars hunting down and arresting domestic and animal abusers, thieves, and other criminals, rather than flushing teens out of Menotomy Rocks park.

If you wanted to be mayor of Boston or Governor you went to Salem Town and hung a few pirates to show you were tough on crime...Some things never change.
Oddly Ms Bishop did not endear herself or help her case however with that attitude to the locals. Unlike today's accused Annie, Brigitte was innocent of bewitchment...Brigitte's conflicting statements and spiteful attitude during her examination made the case against her appear to be very strong to the jurors and judges. Plus the ergot fungus was high at the time, everyone in the village was tripping and seeing things... Annie may want to consider pleading as a hopeless moonbat case. The local jury may agree. Unlike Ms Bishop
If this was a witch 1692 era trial it would be trouble for Annie... Drinking was verboten.
