If you're thinking about joining a gym in town or changing gyms for the New Year, here's a rundown of fitness centers in Arlington and their special deals happening this month.
- Arlington Health and Fitness - Arlington Health and Fitness (AHF) is an ideal gym for beginners and experienced athletes alike. AHF offers an 8,000 square foot facility with cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers, and the newest elliptical cross-trainer, the Cybex Arc. AHF has ample weight and strength building equipment, plus a variety of personal trainers if you're looking for one-on-one help with your fitness regime. AHF is open Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends. Currents specials include one month free if you join with a friend, and a new three-day trial membership for any prospective members. - Gold's Gym – Gold's Gym has 30 locations throughout the Greater Boston area and its Arlington location is currently offering a free seven-day pass to potential members. Gold's is a good basic workout gym with tons of room (30,000 sq. feet), the latest cardio and strength equipment and a variety of classes taught by a professional trainers. Plus, if you bring a friend to sign up with you, that's another free month. Class offerings include from yoga, spinning, and strength training. - Fitness First- Fitness First is a good gym for those of you who are looking for a more cardio or general fitness workout. FF specializes in yoga and dance, but the facility also offers free weights and cardio equipment. Classes include: yoga, step, kickboxing, Zumba and aerobics. In January, Fitness First is waiving start-up fees and offering a $60 discount on yearly memberships. For monthly sign up, it's $59 for the first 3 months and $39 thereafter. - Fitness Together -Fitness Together is the spot in Arlington for personal, one-on-one training. Fitness Together specializes in personal experiences and teams you up with a trainer of your liking to accomplish your fitness goals. Your trainer will help you with diet and exercise. Fitness Together looks to create a private, comfortable atmosphere for members. I "auditioned" at Fitness Together a few years ago. I was told they "don't take anybody." I was also told that if I didn't like the music they were playing while I exercised, that was too bad, I'd have to adjust. What I WASN'T told, ever, was what they'd charge if I signed a contract. I could only presume it was something I wouldn't want to pay.
