From Garden to Pizza
Because there is something different about pizza in the summer.
There is something different about pizza in the summer. I'm not talking about that cheese pie you order for the kids and their friends every Friday night—but a fresh summer pizza. There is no better place in town than Za Pizza and Salad for a little pizza inspiration that highlights all that is good this season. Then when you get home you can try it out yourself on the pizza stone or even on the grill.
Za is not only constantly bringing in the freshest foods of the season, but they source it locally. Verrill Farm is a family farm in Concord, established in 1922 as well as being open to the public with their delicious farm fresh goodies and prepared foods they supply many local restaurants and work with some of the area's top chefs. From Verrill Farms there is arugula, baby spinach, and if you're lucky some of the last strawberries for salads and pizzas! Kimball Farm's garlic scapes and little tomatoes add flavor and brightness to the food. In addition to these farm partners, many of the greens and even the floral decorations come from Eva's Greens in South Dartmouth. The most perfect tomatoes and berries are often early morning deliveries from Angelini Farms in Wrentham and then of course the Arlington Farmers Market on Wednesday always has plenty to offer.
Once you've done your research and enjoyed some great pizzas at Za you can try some of your own. Whether you have an overflowing basket of goodies from your CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share or you were inspired at the farmers market this week. You can usually stop by your favorite neighborhood pizza spot and buy some dough or go ahead and order a cheese pizza. Then add to it with some of your farm fresh goodies. Whether you stretch your dough across some tin foil and throw it on the grill outside or you just sautée up some veggies in the kitchen, this is the time to go all out and make your pizza an ode to the season.
