Flags in Massachusetts will be at half-staff today in honor of U.S. Army Maj. Steven T. Brothers, an Arlington resident who died May 30 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

Brothers, who was 35, was being treated for leukemia at the center, according to his obituary in the Daily Journal, an online newspaper in Indiana. He will be laid to rest today at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, according to the obituary.

Flags were ordered at half-staff by Gov. Deval Patrick.

Brothers was born in Potsdam, N.Y. He then lived in Massena, N.Y., and Bloomington, Ind., before moving to Arlington, according to his obituary.

He entered the Army after graduating from Indiana University’s ROTC program in 1998, his obituary states. He was a Foreign Area Officer in the Army and received a number of medals and badges, according to his death notice on Legacy.com.

Brothers graduated from Harvard University in May 2011 with a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies and then was assigned as deputy chief of the Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar, according to his obituary.

Brothers was survived by his wife Margaret Licata-Brothers, of Arlington, among other family members.
