Five Things You Need to Know Today, July 18

Expect clouds, heat and some thunderstorms today.

Happy Monday, Arlington! Here are five things you need to know today:

1. Weather: Expect clouds, heat and some thunderstorms later on today. High temperatures could reach 92 degrees with an overnight low of 69 degrees.

2. Right turn only: Starting last Friday, the entry onto Massachusetts Avenue from Water Street and Peg Spengler Way at Robbins Library has become right turn only to improve safety around the library. Some parking will also be limited on Massachusetts Avenue by the library entrance. These changes will be part of a six-month trial period.

3. Cribbage: Drop by St. Camillus Parish at 9:30 a.m. today for weekly cribbage sponsored by the Retired Men's Club of Arlington. Cost is $5.

4. For the troops: Barrett & Company Real Estate is collecting donations of peanut butter, jelly and Marshmallow Fluff for Operation American Soldier. Small plastic jars can be dropped off at the Barrett & Company offices in Concord, Lincoln and Carlisle Centers.

5. This day in historyFrom History.com, "On this day in 1940, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who first took office in 1933 as America's 32nd president, is nominated for an unprecedented third term. Roosevelt, a Democrat, would eventually be elected to a record four terms in office, the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms."
