Five Things: Arlington High Softball Facing Tough Test
Today is Tuesday, June 5. Here are five things you need to know.
1. After some morning showers, it should be cloudy today with temperatures reaching 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a 30 percent chance of showers at night.
2. The eighth-seeded Arlington High softball team, coming off of a 7-0 win over Melrose, will travel to No. 1 Dracut tonight for a 7 p.m. game in the quarterfinals of the Division 2 North bracket. The Spy Ponders (15-6) are in the midst of a four-game winning streak. The top-seeded Middies, of the Merrimack Valley Conference, are 20-1 on the season and score, on average, over nine runs per game, while holding opponents to about one run.
3. The seventh-seeded Arlington Catholic baseball team will host No. 18 Saugus at 4 p.m. today at Summer Street Field in the quarterfinals of the Division 3 North bracket. The Cougars (14-7), fresh off their 6-2 win over No. 10 Weston, are facing 8-13 Saugus because the Sachems upset No. 2 Shawsheen (15-4) 11-0 in the bracket’s first round. Prior to beating Shawsheen and Brighton in its last two games, Saugus, of the Northeastern Conference, had lost seven in a row after 6-6 start.
