Fire at Community Safety Building
Incidents and arrests in Arlington from Tuesday, Nov. 27, to Sunday, Dec. 2.
The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department. When arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Fire at Community Safety Building
An Arlington dispatcher spotted a fire behind the Community Safety Building at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, according to police.
The fire was outside of the building, adjacent to the community room on the second floor, police said.
Three officers soon arrived on scene and “observed a large fire burning construction material” next to the building, which is undergoing renovations. One of the officers was able to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher from the building.
The community room did fill up with smoke, police said, but the fire did not spread inside.
The fire appeared to be started by an extension cord and then spread to plastic material that was secured to the building and was being used to prevent water from getting into the community room, according to police. The building was ventilated due to the amount of smoke.
UPS Package Reported Stolen
A Brattle Drive resident reported at about 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, that someone had stolen a UPS package from in front of her apartment the previous night. She said the package was delivered at 5:07 p.m. Thursday, and that when she arrived home from work at 11:30 p.m., it was gone.
The package contained a Bowes system worth $498, she said.
Park Avenue Home Ransacked, TV Reported Stolen
A Park Avenue home was ransacked sometime during the day on Thursday, Nov. 29, according to police.
A babysitter arrived at the home at about 6:55 p.m. to find that a TV had been taken and a vase had been knocked over. Soon after, she discovered that several areas of the home had been ransacked, police said, including bedrooms, closets and medicine cabinets.
Once the homeowner arrived, she said that in addition to the TV, which was valued at $800, $773 in cash and a $300 Sony sound system was missing. She said she left the house at 7:30 a.m. that morning.
Police believe the perpetrator entered the home through an unlocked window and then took the TV out a basement exit.
