Fatality in Route 2 Crash

Arlington firefighters on scene of deadly crash Thursday afternoon.

A four-car accident just after 2 p.m. on Rte. 2 westbound by Spring Street has resulted in a fatality, Lexington police said.

The accident involved a  2008 Cadillac, 2009 Kia, 2003 PT Cruiser and 1999 Ford pickup truck, said a Massachusetts State Police spokesman. A second person was seriously injured in the accident, and two others sustained minor injuries, police said. 

The identity of the person killed in the accident has not yet been released by state police.

At least two ambulances transported people from the accident to Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Arlington firefighters were also assisting. 

Rte. 2 westbound is backed up, with the highway closed at exit 54A, Waltham Street, as of 3:15 p.m. Waltham Street is also backed up as cars exit there. Hayden Avenue and Spring Street are clear of traffic.
