Customer Cut Off at Punjab, Allegedly Rips Employee’s Shirt

An intoxicated customer allegedly pushed a Punjab employee, ripping his shirt, Saturday night after being cut off.

Police responded to the local Indian restaurant at 485 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington Center at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, for a report of a disturbance involving a customer.

Once there, police spoke with the employee who said that the customer had pushed him in the chest after he cut him off. The employee’s shirt was torn from his neck down to the center of his chest, according to police. He told police that he was not injured in the altercation.

The employee said after he told the customer that he could no longer serve him alcohol, an argument began and the customer then shoved him in the chest with both hands. The employee said he then pushed the customer out of his way and proceeded to the hostess table to call 911.

The restaurant’s video surveillance footage corroborated the employee’s account, police said.

Police said that when they spoke with the customer, he was “extremely agitated” and “appeared intoxicated.” The customer, who allegedly yelled at police, told them that he did nothing wrong and was “provoked.”

According to the surveillance footage, after the employee ran to call police, other customers attempted to intervene and detain the unruly suspect. However, the man ran around them and again pushed the employee, this time in the back, police said.

Police were planning to file a criminal complaint against the customer for one count of assault and battery.

Man Unable to Pay Bill at Mr. Sushi

A man was unable to pay his $97.69 dinner bill at Mr. Sushi Sunday night, according to police.

Police responded to the Arlington Center restaurant at 693 Massachusetts Ave. at about 7:22 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, for a report of a customer problem.

A restaurant employee told police that the man had given them a debit card, but it was rejected. The man had eaten with a woman, but she had left the restaurant, the employee said.

The restaurant agreed to take what was in the man’s checking account, as long as he returned the next day to pay the remainder of his bill. The restaurant took down the man’s information, and police told him that they would file a criminal complaint against him if he did not hold up his end of the bargain.

More Than $6,000 Worth of Equipment Reported Stolen from Mill Street Construction Site

Police responded to a Mill Street construction site at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, for a report of a past larceny.

Once there, the reporting party told police that several items had been stolen from the site – 5 ladders, a thread machine and an oiler – sometime between 6-10 a.m. that morning. The thread machine alone was worth about $6,000, he said. It had been locked to a concrete support beam, but the lock was cut, he said.
