Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy Coming to Arlington

Owner plans to begin instruction on March 1.

Arlington will soon be home to a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy.

Nate Ryan, owner of Mass BJJ in Acton, said he is planning to open a second location at 965 Massachusetts Ave. starting on March 1.

“We plan on having a grand opening after we start classes, with many of our training partners that are UFC fighters and BJJ World and Pan Am champions,” Ryan said in an email.

The gym will also offer group strength and condition classes, personal training and kickboxing instruction for all ages, according to academy officials.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a modified form of the original Japanese Jiu-Jitsu that focuses on teaching students to overpower opponents through positioning and leverage, according to the school.

Instructors at Mass BJJ teach students a range of techniques including grappling, kickboxing or mixed martial arts.
