Bicyclist Reportedly Struck on Mass. Ave. in East Arlington

The incident occurred Saturday evening.

Police responded to the corner of Mass. Ave. and Lake Street at about 5:16 p.m. Saturday to take a report from a bicyclist, who said he had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Lake Street.

The bicyclist said he was traveling east on Mass. Ave., toward Cambridge, and that while he was trying to cross Lake Street, the vehicle, also going east, signaled and then took a right turn from Mass. Ave. onto Lake Street, cutting off his right of way.

The bicyclist said he thought his bicycle struck the front passenger door of the vehicle. He was not injured, and his bike did not sustain any damage, he said.

He said he got into a “verbal exchange” with the driver over who had the right of way but the driver drove off before emergency personnel arrived on scene.

A witness did take a photo of the driver’s license plate, and police soon contacted the driver, a Belmont man.

The driver told police he did not believe contact was made between his vehicle and the bike. He said the bicyclist yelled at him, and he left the scene after realizing that the conversation was not going to be productive.
