Baseball Teams to Host Playoff Games Thursday

The Arlington High and Arlington Catholic baseball teams will both be in action at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Arlington High and Arlington Catholic baseball teams have both secured home games in the first round of their respective playoffs.

The Spy Ponders are the No. 8 seed in the Division 2 North bracket and will host No. 9 Marblehead at 4 p.m. Thursday at Spy Pond Field. The Ponders finished their first regular season in the Middlesex League 12-8, while Marblehead went 11-9 in the Northeastern Conference. Marblehead did go 8-2 in its last 10 games, however.

The Cougars earned the No. 7 seed in the Division 3 North bracket with a 13-7 record during the regular season (which includes a 2-1 win over Arlington in the Holovak and Coughlin Tournament last weekend). They’ll host No. 10 Weston (11-9), of the Dual County League, at 4 p.m. Thursday at Summer Street Field.

Weston was 7-1 at home during the regular season but only 4-8 on the road. Prior to losing their last two games, the Cougars, who finished second in the Catholic Central League to Matignon, had won seven in a row.
