The boys’ only got one of their scheduled games in thanks to the snow storm that hit on Tuesday. They were on the road last Saturday to take on Weston, and blasted the home team by a score of 78-58. Brandon Castro led the way for the Ponders, scoring 19 points, recording 11 steals and 10 assists for a triple-double. Adam Zakaria added 14 points and eight rebounds while David Shinn chipped in 12 points to help AHS gain the win. The victory was an important one as the Spy Ponders battle for a post-season birth. Their record now sits at 5-8 as they prepare for a stretch of three games in the next five days.

Again, thanks to the snow, both the boys’ and girls’ hockey teams had games postponed this past week. Each team was in action last Saturday night, however, as the 2010-2011 season rolled on. This season has really gone in two different directions for the two Spy Ponder hockey teams, as the girls roll through what has so far been a very successful season and the boys’ continue to struggle through a disappointing one.

The boys’ struggles continued Saturday night as they traveled to take on a strong Billerica team. Despite an early season shoot-out win over the Indians in the Ed Burns Classic, the Spy Ponders were unable to muster much of an attack on the road, as Billerica shut them out 4-0.

The Lady Ponders were at home to take on Concord-Carlisle, and were able to skate away with a 2-0 win, improving their record to 8-2-1. The shutout win was standout goaltender Casey Schaejbe’s fourth of the season. AHS got goals from senior captains Kristin McKenzie and Kasi Murphy on the way to their victory.

Arlington Catholic High School

Hoops

The Cougar boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both had important league match-ups Monday night as each team squared off with St. Mary’s of Lynn. The boys headed out on the road, and were handed a disappointing 57-48 loss at the hands of the Spartans.

The girls played host to St. Mary’s at the AC gym, and dealt the first place Lady Spartans a lopsided defeat, grabbing an impressive 56-32 win. The Lady Cougars were paced by juniors Emma Roberson (20 points) and Nicole Catizone (14 points) and freshman Maura Buckley (12 points, 9 rebounds).

The AC girls’ were on the road Saturday night and encountered a very strong Hingham High School squad, who sent the Cougars home with a 4-1 loss. Thursday night they were at home to take on Urseline and let one slip away, ending up with a disappointing 2-2 tie.

The boy’s team were also down in Hingham Saturday night, but were there for their second match-up of the season with Archbishop Williams. On the road at Archies is traditionally a tough game to play for AC, but the Cougars were able to escape with a 2-1 win. They then welcomed St. Peter-Marian into the Ed Burns Arena Thursday night and earned a dominating win, knocking the Guardians off 4-0. The Cougars were paced by a two-goal performance from senior captain Daniel Graham. Get the full recap here.
