An Arlington man was arrested in Jamaica Plain early Friday morning after officers allegedly found him inside St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.

Joe Maloof, 31, was charged with breaking and entering and possession of heroin, according to the Boston Police Department News blog.

Police responded to the church, at 97 South St. in Jamaica Plain, at 3:07 a.m. Friday. There, they found a broken window on the basement level, a shovel on the ground near the window and interior lights on inside the church, according to the blog.

They then located Maloof upon entering the church, the blog states. Maloof allegedly had two small plastic bags containing a brownish-white powdered substance believed to be heroin.
